Cooking Tools and World Stations in ApeScape
Ingredients are only one part of Cooking in ApeScape. Players will also need the correct tools and access to appropriate world Cooking stations.
This makes Cooking a physical activity within the game world rather than a global crafting menu that can be opened from anywhere.
Cooking Tools Matter
Recipes may require tools such as:
- Knives
- Frying pans
- Cooking pots
- Skewers
- Ladles
- Spatulas
- Whisks
- Rolling pins
- Cheese slicers
- Cake slicers
- Cooking forks
Tools will not normally be consumed as recipe ingredients. Instead, the game will verify that the player has access to the required tool before allowing the recipe to begin.
Depending on ApeScape’s equipment rules, a tool may need to be equipped, carried in the inventory, attached to a station, or built directly into the station.
Tool Durability
Cooking tools may lose durability through repeated use. This creates demand for tool production, repair, replacement, and trade.
A skilled cook may eventually use tools more efficiently, while advanced recipes may require better equipment or specialized stations.
Tools must be validated by the authoritative game system. A client cannot claim to own a frying pan, Cooking pot, or knife that does not exist in the player’s inventory.
Preparation Tables
Preparation tables will support recipes that do not require heat, including slicing, portioning, mixing, assembling, and preparing ingredients for later recipes.
Examples may include:
- Fruit portions
- Vegetable slices
- Cheese portions
- Salads
- Sandwich assembly
- Cold meal preparation
Stoves and Cooking Pots
Stoves will support heated recipes requiring controlled Cooking. Frying pans and Cooking pots may be used with compatible heat sources.
Cooking pots can support soups, broth, stews, boiled ingredients, and other recipes requiring water or sustained heat.
Ovens
Ovens will be required for bakery and precision-heating recipes such as bread, cakes, cookies, croissants, pizza, pies, and other advanced foods.
An oven is a station-integrated tool. Players should not be expected to carry an entire oven in their inventory simply because a recipe lists it as a requirement.
Steamers, Drink Stations, and Freezers
Specialized stations will open additional recipe categories.
- Steamers can prepare foods such as dumplings and steamed meals.
- Drink stations can prepare coffee, tea, mixed drinks, and other beverages.
- Freezers can support ice cream, frozen desserts, and chilled recipes.
Cooking Stations Exist in the World
Each station will have a real world presence, an interaction range, supported recipe methods, visual states, and multiplayer rules.
A station may be available to one player at a time, support several players, or use a queue depending on the final station design.
The starter village will include an accessible Cooking area containing a Cooking Trainer, Campfire, preparation table, stove, oven, and basic Cooking equipment.
As ApeScape grows, additional Cooking areas may appear in settlements, player-controlled land, wilderness camps, guild locations, and dungeon support areas.
